RAGTIME The Musical Serves As A Vehicle For Community Discourse On Tough Contemporary Issues Of Our Times

Ragtime, the Tony-award winning musical that is the cornerstone of St. David's Episcopal Church's 2015 Celebration of the Arts, is a community-wide production with a diverse group of actors, musicians, crew members, collaborators and funders.

Adapted from E.L. Doctorow's novel of the same name, Ragtime is as relevant today as it was in the decade of social upheaval surrounding publication of the book in 1975, and its story is as disconcerting now as it was in the early-20th Century setting of the novel. Because the powerful themes of justice, race, gender, immigration and social class still reverberate in America, the production team determined not just to present the musical, but also to use it as a means of education and community building.
