Hi, im a 17 year old who was just cast in the role of Tevye at a local youth theater. I don't think I will have time to grow a beard like Topol's fabulous one.. but I was wondering if anyone knew of any great online theatre websites who would have some great very realistic beards.. (because Tevye was not 17 not to mention that fact he couldn't shave his beard in the first place)

Hi Jordan, Check your email, I sent you some pictures and a few things we learned about doing it. Can tell you more if need be or perhaps I should chat with whoever is going to be in charge of bearding all those men! I think we had around 10 or 12 needing full beards, several with sideburns and a couple of fabulous Russian moustaches.

Hi Jordan, I directed Fiddler 3 years ago and my Tevye was 15 at the time. Since every married Jewish male in your cast will need a beard, you might want to look into actually bearding. Basically you buy theatrical hair and spirit gum and apply it on piece by piece. We had our make-up girls practice quite a bit before the show. The result is a very authentic looking beard as you can blend the colours of hair to add in grey for the older men. If you would like pictures or details let me know. SerenaRae

Hey Serena, Is the theatrical hair your talking about called crepe wool? If so I looked at that online and wasn't to sure about the quality of the hair and if it looked realistic so I wanted to see it on someone before I orderd it, I also saw some human hair beards that go for about $30-$60. If you had any pictures that would be awesome! Thanks so much for your help, my email is jclifton92@gmail.com if you wanna send them to my email. Thanks again, Jordan

Our Tevye had a beard that was cut to fit his face out of fake fur (the fur was a verigated color...not solid). Piece of elastic around the back of his head...you can see our pics
