Avenue Q, the 2003 Tony Award-winning Best Musical, officially closes its celebrated Off-Broadway run on May 26, 2019 - where it has been splitting-sides and extolling its valuable life lessons at New World Stages since 2009. 

The original Off-Broadway production premiered at the Vineyard Theatre in March of 2003 and ran for 72 performances, winning the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical. It featured music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and a book by Jeff Whitty. Avenue Q made its move to Broadway on July 31, 2003 at the John Golden Theatre. The musical was nominated for six Tony Awards at the 2004 ceremony, winning Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Original Book, providing composer and lyricist Robert Lopez his first award towards the coveted EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony). It went on to play 2,534 regular performances before closing on September 13, 2009. The musical successfully toured both in the US and UK and has had several international productions. 

Though the curtain closed on Broadway, Avenue Q did not stay quiet in New York for long. The musical traveled full circle when it once again opened Off-Broadway at the New World Stages in October of 2009. 

Since being released for general licensing in 2008, Avenue Q (and its high school friendly adaptation Avenue Q School Edition) have been produced over 1,000 times in North America.
