Audition Central: Disney's Winnie the Pooh KIDS

Script: Rabbit

SIDE 1

(EEYORE enters.)

EEYORE

What are you doing down there, Rabbit?

RABBIT

Help me, Eeyore! The Backson s trapped me! If I don t get out of this trap, he ll come take me away, just like he did Christopher Robin.

EEYORE

Grab my tail. I ll pull you out.

RABBIT

Thank you, Eeyore.

(RABBIT grabs EEYORE's tail, which comes off.)

EEYORE

Now what did you do that for?

RABBIT

I didn t mean to. It just came off in my hand!

EEYORE

Now I ll have to get another one. Probably won t be as good as the last one. They never are.

RABBIT

Wait, Eeyore, don t leave me!

EEYORE

I ll be back. Eventually!

(#13 TIGGER BOUNCES IN. as EEYORE starts to exit, TIGGER bounces in. He then bounces EEYORE and himself into the trap.)

TIGGER

Hello there! Good to see you, Eeyore.

EEYORE

What s good about it?

RABBIT

Tigger, we re trapped in a Backson trap. Can you bounce out and get help?

SIDE 2

ORANGE

Just then, the animals heard footsteps coming through the Wood.

RABBIT

Backson!

(EVERYONE scrambles to hide.)

RED

But it wasn t the Backson, after all.

YELLOW

It was their friend, Christopher Robin.

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN

(entering)
Hello? Anybody there? Where is everyone?

(The ANIMALS come out from hiding and sit or kneel so CHRISTOPHER ROBIN is the tallest.)

There you are!

POOH

Christopher Robin!

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN

Hello there, Pooh.

(CHRISTOPHER ROBIN greets the ANIMALS in turn.)

RABBIT

However did you escape from the Backson?

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN

What s a Backson?

KANGA

He wakes up children.

PIGLET

He puts out the lights.

TIGGER

He rips your pants! If you wear pants. Tiggers don t.

OWL

It is without a doubt, the most wretched creature one could ever encounter.

POOH

We thought he d kidnapped you.

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN

Why would you think that?

OWL

Because of this!

(OWL hands the note to CHRISTOPHER ROBIN.)

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN

Oh. All I meant to say is that I was busy, and that I would be back soon.

RABBIT

Oh.

ROO

(disappointed)
So there really isn t a monster?

POOH

And we were scared for nothing?

EEYORE

It figures.

RABBIT

Don t blame me! It was Owl who told us about the Backsons!

(All look at OWL.)

OWL

Aherm. Perhaps I could have reviewed the document a bit more carefully. As my niece Letitia would say Sor-ry.

POOH

I guess even Owls can make mistakes. But at least we ve got Christopher Robin back again.

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN

But not for long, I m afraid.

RABBIT

Afraid?

EEYORE

I knew it was too good to be true.

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN

It s going to be autumn soon, and I ll be going to school. So that means I won t have as much time to play with you as I used to.

ROO

Forever?

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN

Not forever, Roo. I ll still have nights and weekends. And when next summer comes around, we ll spend every day together.

POOH

But next summer s a long way away. Lots of breakfasts, and lunchtimes, and afternoon snacks away.

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN

But school hasn t started yet, Pooh. And that s why I came out here today. So we could have one last summer picnic.

EVERYBODY

Yay! A picnic!

(The NARRATORS enter and form a rainbow.)

SIDE 3

(POOH, PIGLET and RABBIT watch the BEES dance off.)

RABBIT

I m afraid I m fresh out of honey, Pooh.

POOH

I was afraid you d say that.

RABBIT

Let s see this puzzle of yours.

(reading the note)
Oh, my goodness. Oh, my good goodness.

POOH

So it s a good kind of puzzle? Not the kind where you ve lost a piece and can t find it for the longest time?

RABBIT

What are you talking about, Pooh! This is horrible! This note is simply terrifying!

PIGLET

What does it say?

RABBIT

I don t know.

POOH

Then why is it terrifying?

RABBIT

Because... because... I ll let Owl explain to you why it s terrifying!

RED

So Pooh, Piglet, and Rabbit set out for Owl s house with the puzzling and terrifying note.

OWL

(reading the note)
Hrrmph.

POOH

Excuse me, Owl, but is that a good noise or a bad noise?

OWL

It s an I m thinking kind of noise, Pooh.

POOH

Oh. Say, Owl, while you re thinking, do you happen to have any honey?

OWL

Honey? Never touch the stuff. It clogs the arteries and slows the mental processes.

POOH

But it tastes so good, Owl.

RABBIT

Hush up and let Owl think, Pooh.

OWL

(reading the note)
Gone out Backson. Bisy Backson. Signed, Christopher Robin.

(to others)
Do you know what this means?

(#9 THE BACKSON SONG.)

PIGLET

That s why we came to you, Owl.

RABBIT

I tried to explain to them why it was terrifying.

POOH

What does the note mean, Owl?

OWL

This note means... that Christopher Robin has been captured by a creature called the Backson!

POOH, PIGLET, RABBIT

Oh!

RABBIT

I knew it! Didn t I tell you it was terrifying, Pooh? Didn t I tell you?

POOH

But what s a Backson, Owl?
