Remembering Oscar-Winning MTI Author Al Kasha

We are saddened by the passing of Oscar-winning MTI author Al Kasha. With longtime songwriting partner and fellow MTI author Joel Hirschhorn, Kasha revamped the classic Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and brought the new musical adaptation to Broadway. He received a Tony nomination for Best Original Score with Hirschhorn, Gene de Paul, and Johnny Mercer.

Kasha and Hirschhorn received another Tony nomination for Best Original Score for the 1981 musical Copperfield. The duo won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1973 for "The Morning After" in The Poseidon Adventure and in 1975 for "We May Never Love Like This Again" in The Towering Inferno. For the 1977 film Pete's Dragon, they were nominated for two Oscars and a Golden Globe.

Kasha began his career as a music producer at Columbia Records. He worked with artists like Aretha Franklin, Carole King, Neil Diamond, Donna Summer, Bobby Darin, and more. Al Kasha's career was unlike any other. He will be greatly missed.
