Hi! You cannot make changes to the libretto and/or songs without permission from MTI on behalf of the authors. If you have any proposed changes, email them to your licensing representative for approval.
Regarding casting, the gender in the character descriptions applies to the gender of the character, not the actor. As long as the show is performed as written, any actor can play the role.
