Frequently Asked Questions

What is "recreational theatre"?

Recreational theatre is designed to accommodate your cast with the resources that are available to you, both human and physical. You must accommodate the show and your expectations for what your cast can give. Scripts can be used, staging is dependent on people's abilities, and the performance isn't for critics but for family, friends, and-most importantly-for fun!

I have no prior experience in theatre. Can I do Broadway Senior?

Yes, and thank you for choosing Broadway Senior for your introduction to theatre! We developed Broadway Senior for participants of all experience levels. All Broadway Senior show materials include a Production Guide to take you through every step of the production process from auditions to rehearsals to performances.

I'm new to licensing. Can I request a Broadway Senior license as an individual?

No, you must register an Organization to request a license. Learn more about getting started with Broadway Senior here .

Want to learn more about licensing? You can check out Licensing 101 here or read about getting started with MTI here .

When will I get my materials?

Once your application is approved, you will receive a contract. When that is completed and returned with payment, you should receive your digital materials very shortly after, once the production has been booked.

How many people do I need for my production team?

Your production can be as big or small as you need, but MTI strongly advises that you have an accompanist to run music during rehearsals and performances. It is also helpful to have a stage manager taking notes and tracking blocking during rehearsals, as well as a choreographer who has insights into your cast's needs.

What kind of space or venue do I need to put on a Broadway Senior show?

Broadway Senior shows were developed to be performed anywhere, whether in a community theatre or senior living community. The Production Guide includes tips for rehearsing in different kinds of spaces.

Are Broadway Senior shows only supposed to be done as stage readings? Or do we have to have costumes and a set?

Whichever way is best for you and your community! Your Broadway Senior production can be actors seated with their scripts or a fully staged show. The design elements can be as elaborate or simple as you prefer. The Production Guide offers suggestions for how to approach costumes, props, sets, and more.
