The Music man is based on a con man Harold Hill. He impersonates a boy's band leader and sells band instruments and uniforms to unsuspecting, naive towns people. He promises to teach the towns people to play the instruments and train them to become the town's band but Harold Hill is not a musician. Harold plans to skip town without giving any music lessons. The demure librarian and piano teacher, Marian, knows what he is up to, but when Harold helps her younger brother over come his lisp and social awkwardness, Marian begins to fall in love. Harold decides to risk it all to win her over.
