MTI Dominates List of Most Produced High School Shows in the Country

Every year, the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) releases the results of its annual Play Survey. Among the data released, the survey includes the top ten most-produced musicals and plays in high schools in the United States for the past academic year.

For the 2018-2019 school year, MTI is overjoyed to announce that nine of the top eleven full-length musicals (two tied for 10th) produced by US high schools are represented by MTI, and one play represented by MTI is ranked number three among the most-produced full-length plays in US high schools. Over 3,000 high schools across the country participated in the survey.

Full-Length MTI Musicals in the Top Ten

  • Mamma Mia! (music and lyrics by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, book by Catherine Johnson)
  • Disney's The Little Mermaid (music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, book by Doug Wright)
  • Disney's Beauty and the Beast (music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, book by Linda Woolverton)
  • Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins (original music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, book by Julian Fellowes, new songs and additional music and lyrics by Anthony Drewe and George Stiles)
  • Newsies (music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, book by Harvey Fierstein)
  • Little Shop of Horrors (music by Alan Menken, book and lyrics by Howard Ashman)
  • Seussical (music and book by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics and book by Lynn Ahrens)
  • Into the Woods (music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by James Lapine)
  • Shrek (music by Jeanine Tesori, book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire)

​Additionally, Peter and the Starcatcher (music by Wayne Barker , play by Rick Elice) ranked #3 among the most produced full-length plays.
